As the timber is transformed by fire, Acacia fly ash settles onto the vessel, creating natural colour, texture and unpredictable markings. Behind her, a landscape glows faintly, out of reach but not out of sight.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eI was thinking about how we move from despair to hope, and that this shift rarely happens all at once. First we need to be held in gentleness, long enough to glimpse the light beyond.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eI want viewers to notice that hope is not sudden salvation but a slow recognition of possibility, a small light proving the eye can see again. I built its sweeping form through layers of acrylic and sculptural texture, allowing areas of colour and gold leaf to break apart and move beyond the figure. I was interested in the contrast between her stillness and the sense of movement surrounding her.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eI want the viewer to notice that tension: the composed figure against something far more expressive and expansive. The gold catches and changes with the light, so the artwork never appears completely static.
