Together with a team, I source trees from neighbouring properties, where they are felled, split and prepared throughout the year for a 78-hour continuous firing.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe trees are an integral part of each work. As the timber is transformed by fire, Acacia fly ash settles onto the vessel, creating natural colour, texture and unpredictable markings. Rather than applying glaze, I allow the ash, flame and atmosphere of the kiln to shape the surface, creating a direct connection between tree, fire, clay and place.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe restrained form evokes calm and contemplation. Its simplicity creates space for the viewer to pause, while the ash markings acknowledge forces beyond my control.
