Lacey Pohle - I call her Jess
Noosa Young Arts Prize 2025 Finalists
Oil
29.7cm x 42cm
This oil painting is a tribute to my art teacher, who has mentored and inspired me for the past eight years on the Sunshine Coast. She has played a deeply important role in my creative journey, not only guiding my skills but also encouraging my confidence. I used colours to reflect her warmth and the comforting presence she brings into every space, while the blues also reflect the strength she carries. Beyond being my teacher, she impacts the lives of over 750 weekly students at ‘Art School Co.’ which she founded to share her passion for art. Her presence has always felt safe, supportive, and motivating, something I wanted to express visually. Painting her was a deeply personal experience, and this work is my way of honouring someone who has helped shape who I am. She’s a mother, a teacher, and a Queenslander, but she lets me call her Jess.
