Christine’s connection to her upbringing and to her family, and her childhood by the ocean with nature surrounding them, are a deep and indelible part of who she is and her evolution to being a singer and performer.
I first painted Christine many years ago in a piece that was layered with the details from her childhood and her journey, and what that means to her. That painting is now in the permanent collection of the Perc Tucker Regional Gallery in Townsville, after being selected as a finalist in the Percival Portrait Prize. This painting that followed holds the stories that we spoke of as I was painting her – “I come from the Saltwater People, Be in the desert, yearn for the sea, Planting the seed to dream, Stringing the words together like pearls, That voice is the connection to my soul and where I come from. Voices from her past, recognition of her journey, and visions of her future.
