I want to challenge who we think of as heroes. We can be our own hero. I chose to draw myself because four years ago, I felt I had lost it all—a career-ending wrist injury and a diagnosis that I would never draw again. But I chose to fight for myself. I could have let that be my story, or I could change it. This portrait of a younger me is my hero because, when no one came to save me, she chose to save herself.

The portrait mood is serene and determined, a quiet knowing that I would prove everyone wrong. Monochromatic, because sometimes the truth is black and white. The hyper-realism shows the culmination of my hard work, dedication, and recovery. This piece is the best version of my skills, blending traditional pencil techniques with modern digital tools, reflecting my artistic evolution and personal growth.
