Alt, Control, Shift – Portrait of Paige
This portrait features my daughter Paige, a talented lead matte painter currently heading her team at Wētā Digital in Melbourne. Her journey from multimedia artist to working on some of the world’s biggest films is a story of persistence and creative brilliance. Having spent years with Wētā in Wellington, New Zealand, and then in Montreal, Canada, she’s now back home in Australia, continuing to push boundaries in the visual effects industry. Paige also serves on the board of WIFT (Women in Film and Television), supporting women across screen industries. I’ve captured her in a dynamic, foreshortened pose—her hands at the keyboard, as if the viewer is the screen itself. The portrait is built with layers of collage, fabric, thread, and paint on fine primed linen, in a palette of soft pinks. It’s both a tribute to her achievements and a reflection of the calm strength she brings to her creative world.
