About the work
Tree 1 is part of the Forest series of wheel-thrown stoneware and porcelain forms, paying homage to the Acacia trees that make my wood-firing practice possible. Together with a team, I source trees from neighbouring properties, where they are felled, split and prepared throughout the year for a 78-hour continuous firing.
The trees are an integral part of each work. As the timber is transformed by fire, Acacia fly ash settles onto the vessel, creating natural colour, texture and unpredictable markings. Rather than applying glaze, I allow the ash, flame and atmosphere of the kiln to shape the surface, creating a direct connection between tree, fire, clay and place.
The restrained form evokes calm and contemplation. Its simplicity creates space for the viewer to pause, while the ash markings acknowledge forces beyond my control. The vessel embodies a quiet dialogue between intention and chance, transformation and stillness, honouring the life and energy of the tree.

Collection and delivery
This work is on show at The J, Noosa, until the exhibition closes on 29 October. Works bought during the exhibition stay on the wall until then, and we'll be in touch after purchase to arrange collection or delivery.
