About the work
This piece shows my partner sound asleep, snuggling my Aldi-centre-aisle teddy and our dog - two things that they thought were frivolous and unwise decisions at the time I got them. One morning, I stopped in my tracks how big my heart felt seeing all this softness in this home we make together. I snapped a photograph in the moment, then spent hours immortalising the feeling onto the embroidered portrait - capturing the reality of the moment in the thread painting, and the warmth I felt in the appliqué surrounding it.
The ribbons are saved from bouquets of flowers and Christmas presents. The embroidery thread is all sourced secondhand from op shops and the Embroiderers Guild of Victoria destash market.
This work was developed in a space managed by the City of Melbourne’s Creative Spaces program.

Collection and delivery
This work is on show at The J, Noosa, until the exhibition closes on 29 October. Works bought during the exhibition stay on the wall until then, and we'll be in touch after purchase to arrange collection or delivery.
