About the work
I was inspired to start listening to classical music after reading The Instrumentalist about a young girl learning to play violin from maestros such as Vivaldi in an orphanage in Venice. She had the extraordinary ability to see notes in colour. Presto in music is a tempo marking that means the piece should be played very fast. In this work I am responding intuitively to the pitch and tempo in the music which informs the marks I make and the colours I choose. Alternating between sweeping colour wash on with a rag to drawing with paint using a long brush much like conducting.
