About the work

This abstract totem sculpture explores the intersections of geometry, texture, and cultural symbolism. Standing on a weathered dark wooden block, the piece rises vertically through three distinct, hand carved geometric segments. The bottom segment features a bold four quadrant design painted in striking red, white, and black.This motif heavily evokes the traditional Medicine Wheel, a universal indigenous symbol representing the four directions, elements, and stages of life. Carved concentric lines bring a sense of movement to this foundational piece. Above it, a slender cylinder covered in fine, vertical yellow and black lines draws the eye upward, acting as a vibrant conduit. The sculpture culminates in a sweeping, semicircular crescent painted in deep red and black stripes, balancing gracefully at the peak. Through textured, rhythmic line work and a powerful, elemental colour palette, the sculpture bridges ancient geometric symbolism with modern abstract form, inviting reflection on balance, heritage, and continuity.
