About the work
Not in Bloom explores the frustration of knowing there is more within you, yet feeling unable to reach it. The figure represents potential: alive and capable of growth, but trapped within the pressures surrounding her. The flowers symbolise the person she could become, while the consuming pink paint represents the overwhelming thoughts, expectations, responsibilities and pressures that can take over every aspect of life. Despite being surrounded by colour and signs of growth, the figure remains stuck. The work reflects the tension between knowing you are capable of blooming and feeling consumed by everything that keeps you from becoming the person you know you can be.
